Concept2 was founded in 1976 by brothers Dick and Pete Dreissigacker, who were passionate rowers and engineers. After their unsuccessful trials for the 1976 Olympic team, they began crafting composite racing oars in the back of a bread truck, aiming to improve rowing performance. Their innovative use of carbon fiber revolutionized the sport, making oars lighter and more durable than traditional wooden ones.
In 1981, they expanded their vision by introducing the Concept2 Indoor Rower, which quickly became the best-selling rowing machine globally. This success led to further innovations, including the SkiErg in 2009 and the BikeErg in 2017. Based in Morrisville, Vermont, Concept2 has grown significantly while maintaining its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Today, it is recognized as a leader in fitness equipment, serving both elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts worldwide.
